Catholic Charities’ Service Inspires Folio Awards
Stories highlighting two Catholic Charities of Long Island ministries were recognized in the 2025 Folio Awards competition honoring the best in news and media.
Danielle Campbell, CCLI’s director of development and communications, was cited for her Catholic Faith Network report about Talbot House in the Self-Care, Recovery and Positive News, Metro Video, in the Best of News division.
Her winning package explained the transformative service Talbot House provides through interviews with clients being treated for addiction. Judges described the piece as a “beautiful story about hope, resilience and second chances.” CFN editor Bryan Butler and freelance videographer Ed Sweeting contributed to the report.
John Woods, communications administrator at CCLI, wrote about Carolyn Lawrence, a senior who secured a loving home thanks to Catholic Charities’ CARES program and its coordinator, Linda Reich. Carolyn’s new home, which she never plans to leave, is with the community of seniors happily residing at Harvest House, run by two Dominican Sisters of Amityville. The piece was honored in the Authentic Storytelling Campaign category, Best in Media division.
The awards, sponsored by the Fair Media Council, were publicly announced at a June 12 awards luncheon at the Garden City Hotel. Jaci Clement is CEO and executive director of the Fair Media Council. David Ushery of NBC 4 New York served as master of ceremonies, and Hazel Sanchez and Dan Mannarino, both of PIX 11, presented the awards.
Maurice DuBois, a veteran of the New York television news scene who is now the co-anchor of CBS Evening News, received the Lifetime Achievement Award. DuBois, a native of Long Island, credited his father, who was in attendance, for encouraging him to enroll in a journalism course when he was a high school sophomore at Port Jefferson High School.
The Distinguished Service Award was bestowed on two honorees: 77 WABC Radio, accepted by John Catsimatidis, chairman and CEO of the Red Apple Group, and WNYW FOX 5 New York, accepted by Emad Asghar, news director of WNYW Fox 5.
A tribute, voiced by longtime anchor Wayne Cabot, fondly recalled the recently departed all-news radio station, WCBS 880. The Development and Communications Department strives to present and gather support for the life-changing service Catholic Charities of Long Island provides for needy and vulnerable neighbors of all faiths and backgrounds.
