We have a happy Thanksgiving week update about a family of four currently living in Long Beach.

They are clients of our Catholic Charities of Long Island Special Needs Housing program who were recently given a holiday meal with all the trimmings.

It’s a Thanksgiving meal the family will be able to share with each other because of the generosity of Long Islanders.

This Long Beach family is also giving thanks this holiday because with help from Catholic Charities, the father now has a job where he is thriving and that means he and his wife and two children can now look for a permanent home of their own.

The family was left homeless back in 2012 when Superstorm Sandy hit.
Mom, Dad, their then-four-year-old daughter, and newborn son were evacuated from their home.

And because none of the shelters could house the full family together, for three months they lived in a car.

That’s when Catholic Charities stepped in and was able to help the family through the Special Needs Housing program, which assists people with different types of physical and mental disabilities. It has continued to provide a lifeline of support on their road to independent living.

This family says they will gather around their table this Thanksgiving and share a delicious meal, and they will also give thanks to those who were by their side during their times of struggle.

We are very grateful to share this family’s success!
